*BJP adding fuel to fire in Leh: LCU

LEH, Sept 27: The Congress Partys’ Ladakh Unit held the Central Government and the UT of Ladakh administration solely responsible for creating conditions, which led to widespread protest on Sept 24 in Leh city.
In a press statement a spokesman of the Ladakh Congress Unit (LCU) said in the wake of the ongoing 35 days hunger strike undertaken by Sonam Wangchuk and his supporters, and consequent public mobilization by Apex body, it would have been only sensible and prudent for the Union Ministry of Home Affairs to have the talks with the APEX — KDA, as demanded by Apex body co-chairman. This would have saved 4 precious lives and fatal injuries to many, and prevented the situation from getting out of control.
Having failed to do so, and after creating circumstances, responsible for unrest, they are now harassing the agitators, Sonam Wangchuk and Congress Party. The Central government must understand clearly that politics or falsehood, chicanery and bluff do not work in Ladakh. They would be well advised to handle Ladakh with serious concern and utmost sensitivity, given its geo-strategic importance for national security. Brutal repression, forceful arrest, and harsh measures would only prove counterproductive, he added.
“The Government of India must stop its callous and indifferent attitude to Ladakh’s demands of statehood and 6th schedule. It has taken all of 5 years of agitation- including many hunger strikes and Pad Yatra to New Delhi- to have talks initiated, that, too, in fits and starts- only to be able to partially and unsatisfactory resolve the issue of domicile/recruitment. It is time upheld BJP’s election promise of inclusion under the 6th Schedule. It is also time for BJP to empower Ladakh with an electoral democratic institution with a fully empowered legislature by granting statehood,” he said.
“Any more wishy-washy offer and hoodwinking tactic will only aggravate the situation and add fuel to the fire. The Congress Party demands that the Government provide full monetary compensation to the families of those who lost their lives, as also to those who were injured in police firing,” the spokesman added.
