Centre distorting facts on Kashmir: Yechury

PUDUCHERRY, Sep 25: Communist Party of India (Marxist) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury on Wednesday charged that the centre was indulging in “absolute distortion of facts” to justify its decision to abrogate Article 370 and bifurcation of Jammu and Kashmir.

Addressing  a workshop on states rights and new legislations here on Wednesday night, he claimed that a false propaganda was being made that the decision on article 370 was taken to integrate the State with the rest of the country when the real intent was “to polarise Hindus and Muslims”.

“Article 370 was not a standalone constitutional provision giving special status to J and K. Under Article 371, at least 12 States enjoyed special status and even in BJP ruled States such as Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand outsiders were barred from buying land,” he said.

“So in the name of integration will the government allow outsiders to buy land in these States. The real intention is to polarise the community. Alienation of people in Kashmir was the real problem and in one stroke you have cemented their alienation,” Mr Yechury said. (UNI)
