The IGGDC currently admits 17 postgraduate students every year, and with this latest approval, four more seats have been formally sanctioned-one each in Prosthodontics and Crown & Bridge, Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics, Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics, and Pediatric and Preventive Dentistry.
Meanwhile, official sources said the college (IGGDC) is also undergoing a Dental Council of India (DCI) inspection for an additional seven seats across specialities.
“If the DCI clears these seats, IGGDC will see a total enhancement of 11 seats-seven regular seats plus four EWS seats-taking effect from the 2026-27 session. This will mark one of the largest single-year increases in MDS capacity at the institution,” they said.
According to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare’s Letter of Permission approving increase of 4 seats under the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) quota in different MDS specialities at IGGDC, dated December 4, 2025, the newly approved EWS seats have been permitted for one year and will be renewed annually based on the college’s compliance with the targets and infrastructure requirements.
“The process of renewal of permission in the original/increased intake capacity will continue till such time the expansion of its facilities is completed,” read the Ministry’s Letter of Permission.
The Ministry has also cautioned that any admissions made in violation of prescribed norms will be treated as “irregular” and may attract action under Dentists Act, 1948.
The Union Ministry has also advised the Dental College’s administration to ensure full compliance with all statutory regulations and report any discrepancies to the Dental Council of India or the Central Government.
“Discrepancies, if any, may be brought to the notice of Dental Council of India and Central Government,” read the Permission Letter.
