JAMMU, Mar 30: The Central University of Jammu hosted its inaugural Model United Nations conference, YUGAAROH 2026, organized by the Department of National Security Studies under the leadership of Vice Chancellor Prof. Sanjeev Jain. The initiative reflects the university’s strong emphasis on academic innovation and experiential learning.
The two-day conference, themed “Weaving Peace from Sparks and Splinters,” brought together over 165 students from various departments. Participants engaged in dynamic simulations of global diplomacy, assuming the roles of international delegates to deliberate on pressing global and national issues.
The event featured five committees, each addressing critical challenges. The UNGA focused on institutional reforms to correct representational imbalances in global governance. The UNSC deliberated on major geopolitical concerns, including the Russia-Ukraine conflict and crises in the Middle East. The UNHRC examined issues of accountability and civilian protection in conflict zones, while ECOSOC discussed economic concerns such as debt vulnerability and trade securitisation.
Bridging international and domestic discourse, the AIPPM committee hosted debates on key Indian policy matters, including GST, education reforms, and the Uniform Civil Code. Proceedings were documented by the International Press Corps, ensuring professional coverage through real-time reporting and photography.
Dr Neeta Rani, Convenor of the event and Head, Department of National Security Studies, along with Event Coordinator Dr R Sudhakar, Associate Professor, Department of National Security Studies, ensured the smooth and successful execution of the program.
The event received valuable support from B.A., Defence and Strategic Studies Students Charvi Gupta, Secretary General and Akshita Sajawal Sharma, Director General, as well Shubham Singh Chakra, Research Scholar and Head of the Organising Committee for the Model United Nations event. The conference concluded with an award ceremony recognizing outstanding delegates and performances, marking a successful beginning for what promises to be a flagship academic event.
