Central Library of SKUAST Jammu starts Heritage Section

JAMMU, Dec 31: The Central Library at Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu today marked a significant milestone with the inauguration of its new Heritage Section.
Dr B N Tripathi, Vice-Chancellor of SKUAST Jammu, officially inaugurated the section dedicated to showcasing the diverse heritage of Jammu and Kashmir, with a predominant focus on the Jammu region.
The Heritage Section serves as a comprehensive repository of knowledge on the region’s historical roots, political & cultural identity, local languages and demographic tapestry. It features an extensive collection highlighting the primitive Dogra heritage, traditional culture, the past political scenario of Jammu and Kashmir, demographic evolution, and the impacts of partition. A special clippings file compiles key historical documents, articles, and visuals that illuminate these themes, providing invaluable resources for researchers, students, and the public.
Dr B N Tripathi, his address, emphasized the importance of preserving regional history in an era of rapid change. “This Heritage Section is not just a collection of artifacts and documents; it is a bridge connecting our past to the future, ensuring that the stories of our ancestors, the resilience of the Dogra people, and the complex socio-political journey of Jammu and Kashmir are accessible to generations to come,” he said.
Prof R K Samnotra, University Librarian of SKUAST Jammu, played a pivotal role in curating the section. Scholars from the University of Jammu, along with the entire library team, led by Leela Dhar Mangi, Assistant Librarian, and Dr Asha Rani, Dr Amit Sharma, Dr Meenakshi Devi Senior Library Assistants, were instrumental in bringing this initiative to fruition and ensuring its alignment with academic excellence.
