Srinagar, June 18: The employees of the Centaur Hotel, who were recently evicted after the J&K Government took over the possession and sealed the building, today staged a protest urging the administration to safeguard their jobs.
Scores of employees appeared in the Press Enclave and were heard raising slogans in favor of their demands while seeking immediate measures from the LG-led Administration.
“It’s the day 5 of the eviction and no one has come to us even as we were told that we will be taken on board, but what is unfortunate is that no one came to us for the safeguarding of jobs,” one of the employees, Farooq Ahmad Bhat said.

He said that 160 employees are staring in the dark after the Government took over the possession of the hotel. “We want the LG to protect our jobs as we have been left with nothing,” he said.
A lady who was also working at the hotel said that she is left with no other source of income and that she will face immense hardships in case she loses her job. “I have been working there for the last 16 years and have got nowhere else to go; the administration needs to resolve our issue,” she said.
The employees said that they were told that their jobs will be safeguarded in case the Government takes over the possession of the hotel, however, they rue the indifference of the administration towards them.
The employees said that the Government talked about development and progress after the abrogation of Article 370. “Is this the development when nearly160 people who have been working at the hotel for the last 30 years have been kicked out of their jobs?” they asked.
The employees who have been protesting for the last several days now said that the Ministry of Civil Aviation had assured them that they will not let them come out on the roads. “But what happened was the opposite; we were thrown out of the hotel while our issue remains unresolved,” the employees said.
The protesting employees of the Centaur Hotel urged the administration, particularly the LG Manoj Sinha to address their issues and ensure that their jobs are restored so that they are not left to suffer.
