According to officials, the ceiling suddenly gave way while participants were seated inside the hall, triggering panic among those attending the event. “Several participants sustained minor injuries in the incident and were immediately provided medical attention,” an official said.
A participant who was present at the conference said the ceiling collapsed without warning. “The ceiling suddenly broke above us and many people were injured. Panic gripped the entire hall and we were pleading for help. After that, we don’t know what happened,” she said.
The Executive Officer of the Municipal Committee Dooru, Mohammad Iqbal Bhat said the programme was attended by several women, including ASHA workers.
He added that the matter has been reported to higher authorities. “The construction work had been carried out a few years ago. We will examine the structure and check what material was used,” the officer said.
