KARGIL, Mar 4: Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor LAHDC, Kargil, Feroz Ahmad Khan reviewed the ongoing activities and future plans of 17000 ft foundation in education sector in Kargil district.
In a high level meeting here today, discussion was also held about the steps needed to be taken for cooperation and support that could be extended by the LAHDC Kargil to 17000 ft Foundation in the interest of promotion of innovation in education.
The meeting was attended by the Executive Councilor for Social Welfare Aga Syed Mujtaba Mosavi, Executive Councillor for Health Muhammad Ali Chandan, Deputy Commissioner and CEO, LAHDC, Kargil Baseer ul Haq Choudhary, Director School Education, Ladakh Muhammad Mumtaz Ali, Chief Education Officer Kargil Nazir Ahmad Wani, Founder of 17000 ft Foundation Sujata Sahu,, Director 17000 ft Foundation Dawa Jora, Program Manager, 17000 ft Foundation Zakir Hussain besides other concerned officers.
Addressing the meeting, the CEC underlined the need for active involvement of community members in the transformation of the school education system. He also stressed for better training and capacity building of Master Trainers within the system while citing the example of Government schools in Delhi.
During the course of discussions, the Executive Councilors spoke about the need for merging schools and provision of hostel facilities while as the Deputy Commissioner Kargil expressed the need for merging Anganwari Centers with the main schools and particularly stressed the need to re-activate schools that were in danger of shutting down.
The Director Education Ladakh talked about allotment of funds for infrastructure development in Government schools while ensuring that no duplication happens. The Chief Education Officer spoke about the need for an affective monitoring tool that can help governance at the school level.
Earlier, Founder of 17000 ft Foundation Sujata Sahu, highlighted the activities undertaken by 17000 ft Foundation over the past seven years to improve education in Government schools and reduce student migration. She informed that the organization has setup libraries in 220 schools, installed playground equipments in 134 schools, setup classroom furniture, carpeting and painting in 134 schools of Ladakh across both districts of Leh and Kargil. She also said that DigiLab has been set up in 110 schools in such areas which have neither electricity nor connectivity.
