LEH, Feb 13: The Chairman of LAHDC Leh, Advocate Tashi Gyalson, along with Deputy Chairman Tsering Angchuk and Executive Councillor Ghulam Mehdi, held a meeting with Lt Gen Hitesh Bhalla, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of 14 Corps, at Leh today.
Brig Vinod S and Brigadier Ashutosh Dwivedi were also present in the meeting.
As per a statement, the meeting covered a wide range of important issues, starting with land-related concerns.
CEC Gyalson requested the army’s support to open the Galwan and Hot Spring areas for domestic tourism.
He also raised the issue of relaxing the Vintage Clause for Civil Hired Transport within the army and proposed increasing the procurement of locally grown vegetables and fruits through Cooperative Marketing Societies.
Another key proposal discussed was the preference for local porters within the army, with an emphasis on raising their wages, particularly for those working in Siachen.
The CEC further suggested promoting tourism in newly opened areas like Siachen and Demchok to boost local livelihoods.
Under the Operation Sadbhawana Scheme, Gyalson requested the army’s support to improve youth welfare in remote and border areas.
He also proposed handing over the army-constructed cafeteria to local self-help groups for income generation.
The CEC expressed gratitude for the revival of the “Ladakh Ignited Minds” coaching program, which helps students preparing for competitive exams.
Lt Gen Bhalla assured full support for all the proposals and requested the CEC’s cooperation in resolving army land-related issues.
Both parties agreed to hold a follow-up meeting to monitor progress on the discussed matters.
