CB’s EOW books revenue officials for land acquisition irregularities in Ramban

JAMMU, Mar 16: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Crime Branch (CB) Jammu has registered a case against officers and officials of the Revenue Department in Ramban district and others for their alleged involvement in irregularities in several land acquisition cases in the district.
The action was taken following a written communication from the Deputy Commissioner Ramban through Crime Headquarters J&K seeking investigation and legal action.
Quoting the complaint, a Crime Branch official said that certain individuals allegedly manipulated revenue records and submitted compensation claims for land that is recorded as State land under the ownership and possession of the Government.
He said the reflection of private persons as possessors in the Field Book and Apportionment Statement reportedly lacks legal validity and led to unwarranted compensation claims from the State exchequer.
During preliminary scrutiny, he said, 20 land acquisition cases involving about 327 kanal and 9 marla of State land were identified, with compensation claims or awards amounting to around Rs 18, 57, 57, 787.
He said taking cognizance of the matter, Crime Branch registered an FIR under sections 420, 465, 468 and 120-B RPC read with section 5(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act at Police Station Crime Branch (EOW) Jammu against the concerned Revenue Department officials and other individuals.
According to him, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been constituted to carry out an in-depth investigation into the case.
