JAMMU, Apr 6: The Cyber Investigation Centre for Excellence (CICE) of the Crime Branch Jammu has recovered Rs 59.89 lakh from an online investment scam, providing major relief to a victim.
According to officials, the case was reported through the 1930 helpline by a retired senior citizen who had been duped in a fraudulent investment scheme promising high returns.
Acting swiftly, the enquiry officer and the investigation team initiated a detailed probe, tracing digital financial transactions and coordinating with banks and payment gateways to track the flow of money, officials said.
During the investigation, they said, the team was able to identify and freeze the defrauded amount.
Through timely intervention and technical expertise, the entire amount of Rs 59, 89, 784 was successfully recovered and credited back to the victim’s account, officials said.
The recovery operation was carried out by the enquiry officer, DySP Monika Thakur, under the overall supervision of SSP, CICE J&K, Ramnish Gupta.
Meanwhile, police have advised the public to remain cautious and avoid falling prey to suspicious investment offers, particularly those circulated on social media and online platforms.
Citizens have also been urged to immediately report any cyber fraud on the 1930 helpline during the “golden hours” or register complaints on the National Cyber Crime Portal.
