CBI nabs ESIC officer with Rs 9,000 bribe

JAMMU, Nov 17: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) today arrested a Social Security Officer of the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) in Jammu for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 9, 000.

Officials said the instant case was registered after a complainant reported that his wife’s private firms had been non-functional since inception, yet repeated ESIC notices were being issued for non-deposit of contributions.
When the complainant approached the concerned ESIC officer, they said, he was allegedly asked to pay Rs 10,000 as bribe to close the proceedings.
After the amount was negotiated at Rs 9,000, a trap was laid and the ESIC officer was arrested red-handed with the bribe, officials said.
Pertinently, searches were underway at the residence of the arrest ESIC officer when this report was filed.
