JAMMU, May 16: In probably for the first time, the Central Bureau of Investigations (CBI), Jammu wing, conducted a raid outside its jurisdiction at Chandigarh and arrested an Assistant Defence Estate Officer of Western Command at Chandigarh red handed while accepting graft of Rs 15,000 from a complainant.
Official sources said the Anti-Corruption Branch of CBI, Jammu wing conducted the raid at Chandigarh as the complaint had been made at Jammu.
The officer, Mukesh Khurana soon after the arrest was taken on 24 hours transit remand from a court at Chandigarh by the CBI team and was being shifted here. He would be produced before the CJM Court here tomorrow morning for taking further remand.
Sources said the officer had demanded Rs 2.5 lakh from Showkat Ali son of Munir Hussain R/o Kothedhar, Rajouri, a lawyer for recruitment of his brother as SDO Grade-III in Defence Estates Organisation.
Showkat said his brother had stood at No. 2 under ST category in exam of SDO Grade III in Defence Estate Organisation held in January 2012 at Chandigarh. He said Khurana had demanded Rs 2.5 lakh for getting his brother selected as SDO Grade III in place of candidates falling at serial number one and demanded initial installment at his office in Chandigarh.
The CBI registered a regular case against Khurana and nabbed him today while accepting bribe in presence of independent witnesses. The amount of corruption has been recovered from his possession.
