CBI admits; Coalgate report was seen, vetted by PMO officials

NEW DELHI :  CBI today informed the Supreme Court  that the draft status report filed in the court on March 8  was seen by Union Law Minister Ashwani Kumar, Attorney General  of India G E Vahanvati and PMO officials.
CBI Director Ranjit Sinha, in his nine page fresh affidavit  filed in the Supreme Court also clarified that the  report was not only seen but was vetted by Ashwani Kumar  and several changes in the draft status report were made at  the instance of the minister, Attorney General and PMO  officials.
According to the affidavit, AG, former AGS Harin Raval,PMO  and Coal Ministry officials were present during the meeting  with Mr Ashwani Kumar.
Earlier, the Attorney General and Mr Raval had  categorically stated before the court that the status report  was not shared with any government executive.
A three judge bench headed by Justice R M Lodha will  consider fresh affidavit on May 8.
Mr Prashant Bhushan counsel for one of the petitioners,  told media that it was a clear case of contempt of the  Supreme Court by the two senior most law officer of  the government.
Mr Sinha, in his affidavit, has also admitted that multiple  draft report were seen by the Minister, AG and PMO and  Coal Ministry officials.
The apex court has already pulled up the CBI and the  government saying “It is a case of massive breach of trust  which has shaken our foundations.”
