CB Jammu holds awareness program on new criminal Laws, economic offences

JAMMU, Mar 1: Crime Branch Jammu today hosted an awareness session on the new criminal laws and economic offences.
As per a statement, Dr Vidyut Vikas, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police, CBI Jammu, was the guest speaker during the event held at Crime Branch Jammu Headquarters.
Dr Vikas, who has served a five-year tenure at the Jammu CBI branch, was greeted by senior officers, including Dr Sunil Gupta, Inspector General of Crime Branch Jammu; Abdul Qayoom, DIG Crime; Benam Tosh, SSP EOW; Yaseen Kitchloo, SSP CICE; Joint Director of Prosecution, Layeeq Ahmed; Amarjeet Singh, SO to IGP Crime; and other senior officials.
During the event, Dr Vikas, an IRS officer from the 2008 batch, discussed key provisions of the new criminal laws and provided insights into the CBI’s professional approach.
He praised the high standards of investigation in the CBI and urged the Crime Branch to adopt similar practices, guidelines, and SOPs.
He also highlighted the importance of a victim-centric approach in investigations, emphasizing that modern police practices aim to deliver justice to the public, not just punish the accused.
Dr Vikas further stressed the significance of using digital tools such as e-Saksh, e-Summons, and other e-practices to speed up the judicial process.
The session was attended by all investigating officers of the Crime Branch, who actively participated in the discussions.
Dr Vikas shared several successful examples of CBI investigations, providing valuable insights for the attendees.
Other speakers, including Abdul Qayoom and Layeeq Ahmed, spoke about the importance of a citizen-centric approach in investigations and the new legal provisions allowing trial in absentia for absconding accused.
The program concluded with Crime Branch expressing its commitment to organizing more such programs in the future to further enhance professionalism, investigation quality, and the skill development of its workforce.
