SRINAGAR, Apr 8: Casual labourers of Mechanical Irrigation Department, Shadipora Division today staged protest demanding release of their wages which are being withheld for the last eight months.
A delegation of casual labourers told Excelsior that authorities are not serious about releasing their wages despite working in the department for whole year. “We have sent number of reminders to the concerned authorities to start the process of releasing our wages, but till date nothing has been done,” said one of the protestors.
President, Casual Labourers Union, Fayaz Ahmad Ganie said that they have to face huge problems as they are not being paid the salaries on monthly basis. ‘We are working regularly and also take care of the Government property but we hardly get salaries. Sometimes they pay us for a month or two but rest of the months we have to just wait which has not only put us in tension but life of our children has become a hell,’ he said.
