JAMMU, May 2: The Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee has congratulated the LoP in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi and the Congress leadership for the success of the Congress struggle for the caste sensus in the country.
A unanimous resolution was adopted in a meeting at Congress office Jammu today, to express gratitude to the Congress leadership especially LoP in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi for the success of the struggle to pressurize Government to concede the demand of Congress party for caste census in the country.
The resolution moved by JKPCC chief spokesperson, Ravinder Sharma was seconded by working president, Tara Chand (ex-DyCM) and Raman Bhalla (former Minister) and adopted unanimously by the participants, by raising hands, amidst raising of slogans in favour of Congress president Malikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi.
Tara Chand, who presided over the meeting alongwith Raman Bhalla, which was attended by several senior leaders, said that the struggle of Rahul Gandhi has finally yielded results and the Government had to accept the demand raised by Congress party for caste census. He said that the entire credit for this goes to Rahul Gandhi and the Congress party. He said that now the party demands that the caste census should be completed within time frame so that the complete benefits reach to the common man at the earliest.
Working president Raman Bhalla while expressing gratitude to Rahul Gandhi said that the announcement of caste census is the result of the struggle of Rahull Gandhi and entire Congress party behind him. He called for a time frame to complete the exercise, so that the benefits of Government scheme reach the targeted population. All the participants fully endorsed the resolution and adopted by one voice.
The meeting strongly condemned Pakistan for the unprovoked firing on the border and LoC and reiterated the decision of CWC and Congress president Malikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi that Congress party is fully behind the nation and the Government to give befitting response to Pakistan for the Pahalgam carnage.
Earlier, a two-minute silence was also observed to mourn the death of veteran Congress leader and former Union Minister Girija Viyas and pray for peace to the departed soul.
