JAMMU, Mar 10: A massive protest march of the CAPD workers from Press Club to Raj Bhawan was today foiled by the police while similar protest demonstration was held at Srinagar today.
A large number of  workers of CAPD department under the banner of  Food & Allied Workers’ Union, are on strike for the last 10 days. The public is badly suffering due to non-supply of ration to different areas. Similar strike is going on at Srinagar. They are demanding enhancement of their wages and review of the rates of handling food grain bags as the same has not been revised since December 2012. They demanded that their wages be released before 10th of every month and pending payments of the Mufassil workers should also be cleared.
In order to intensify their struggle, the protesting workers planned to take out protest rally up to Raj Bhawan at Press Club today. As they took out protest march towards Dogra Chowk, a strong contingent of police and para-military force stopped them and foiled their protest march. The workers showed some resistance but  after light cane charge, they were not allowed to move towards Gumat Bazaar.
In Srinagar also similar protest march was taken out but police also foiled their march and arrested atleast 20 workers. They were however,  released in the afternoon.
These workers had launched their agitation on January 8, 2016 upto January 28, after assurance from Director and other senior officers that their issue would be solved within 15 days but after the officers failed to honour their commitment, the workers again went on strike  from March 1, 2016.  They claimed that strike would be continued till their issue is resolved. This strike  has affected the ration supplies in the entire state.
