Candidates of Judicial Services Exam allege irregularities

Srinagar, Jan 21: Candidates who appeared in the J&K Civil Services (Judicial) Mains Examination today alleged “irregularities, lack of transparency and unfairness” in the evaluation process conducted by the J&K Public Service Commission (JKPSC).
The protesting candidates-most of them from the Kashmir Division-held a silent demonstration, saying the results of the Mains examination and the shortlisting for the interview stage had raised serious concerns about the fairness and credibility of the assessment process.

They demanded a clear explanation from the JKPSC and greater transparency in the declaration of results.
The candidates said that they have also submitted a detailed representation to the JKPSC, seeking clarification on the criteria and methodology used for evaluation and shortlisting in the KCS (Judiciary) examination.
In the representation, the aspirants said that around 1,016 candidates qualified the Preliminary Examination, nearly 70 per cent of them from the Kashmir Division.
However, they alleged that only about 10 percent of candidates from the division were shortlisted for interviews, calling the outcome disproportionate in the absence of disclosed evaluation parameters.
They further pointed out that an entire roll number series-from 7900591 to 7901003-belonging to candidates from the Kashmir Division is missing from the shortlist.
The unexplained omission of the series, they said, raised fears of arbitrariness, casting doubt on the fairness of the selection process.
The aspirants also flagged what they described as procedural inconsistency in the declaration of results.
They noted that while the KCS (Judiciary) Mains results were declared within about one and a half months, the results of the J&K Administrative Services (KAS) Mains examination conducted in 2023 are yet to be announced.
