They accused the J&K State Eligibility Test Agency, Jammu University, of intentionally not postponing the said Test for allegedly stalling participation of the candidates, particularly from remote areas.
“Despite well aware of the fact that connectivity is severely paralyzed in view of damaged roads and landslides at here and there, the authorities are hell bent to conduct the exam and thus playing with career of the candidates,” they alleged.
They also reminded that the Test was earlier postponed thrice with little significant reasons like Karva Chouth on the schedule date and UGC visit to Jammu University, which had nothing to do with conduct of the exam.
“And now when the entire Jammu region is facing unprecedented situation following flash floods and landslides, the authorities are adamant not to postpone the exam,” they added.
When contacted, Member Secretary SET, Prof Pankaj Shrivastva said that candidates affected due to blockage of Jammu-Srinagar National Highway will be considered for change of examination centre to a nearby one.
“As far as the demand for postponement of the Test is concerned, the same cannot be considered as no exam cantre will be available till ending October and after that conducting of exam would not be possible till April next year because of severe cold conditions in Ladakh and winter zone areas,” he explained.
Pertinent to mention that 23,666 candidates have been registered for SET exam and the authorities have established 55 centres across J&K and Ladakh for conduct of the exam. In Jammu division, exam centres have been established at Jammu, Kathua, Udhampur, Rajouri and Bhaderwah.
