The Cabinet meeting will be chaired by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and attended by five other Ministers besides the senior officers.
Sources said one of the major items on agenda of the Cabinet is allotment of five marlas of land to the people whose houses were damaged by flash floods and landslides triggered by cloudbursts and torrential rains in Jammu and Kashmir during Monsoon this year.
“The policy for allotment of five marlas land to the flood-hit people has been finalized. Once the Cabinet gives nod to it tomorrow, the policy will go to Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha for approval,” the sources said.
Following havoc created by Monsoon rains especially on August 14 and 26 this year, the civilian houses, fields, crops etc suffered extensive damages besides the Government infrastructure.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had announced that his Government will give five marlas plot to the people whose houses have been extensively damaged in the rains and landslides. Sources said the policy on allotment of plots has been finalized after an extensive exercise undertaken by the Omar Government.
Another significant agenda item in tomorrow’s Cabinet pertains to infusion of Rs 118 crore in Jammu Central Cooperative Bank and Anantnag Central Cooperative Bank to revive them.
Both these banks have been facing serious issues on financial and other fronts. However, the two banks are crucial in Cooperative sector in Jammu and Kashmir and, therefore, the Government proposed to infuse funding in the two banks for their revival.
“The Cabinet will also consider revising Salary Level of the Village Level Workers posted in the Rural Development Department,” the sources said, adding the issue was under discussion for past some time.
The Cabinet is also scheduled to give nod to re-designation of about 20 posts of the District Panchayat Officers as the Block Development Officers in the Rural Development Department.
Sources said the Cabinet is expected to discuss the issues of Finances including the Central funding and issues for next budget though there is still a lot of time in 2026-27 budget which is likely to be presented by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who holds charge of the Finance Department, in the month of March.
Last Cabinet meeting was held on December 3 here in which the Government approved much awaited new Reservation Policy for Jammu and Kashmir based on recommendations of the Cabinet Sub Committee (CSC). Few days back, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah stated that the Reservation Policy approved by the Cabinet is pending for approval before the Lieutenant Governor.
It may be mentioned here that the UT Cabinet decisions are subject to approval of the Lieutenant Governor.
The Cabinet had cut Economically Weaker Section (EWS) quota by 7 percent and RBA by 3 percent reducing them to three and seven percent respectively as against 10 percent each. This was done to raise the Open Merit quota by 10 percent.
