JAMMU, Mar 20: The placement of Chaman Lal Sharma as Incharge Director Horticulture Jammu has been made following vigilance clearance issued by the General Administration Department.
A spokesman of the department said that the officer was assigned temporary charge of the post of Incharge Director Horticulture Jammu vide Government Order dated 04.03.2024 being senior most officer to meet the functional requirements of the department.
The temporary charge was assigned in the light of vigilance clearance issued in his favour dated December 27, 2023 by the General Administration Department wherein it was mentioned that as per the report furnished by the Anti-Corruption Bureau and as per the available records, there is nothing adverse against Chaman Lal Sharma.
Thereafter, in the month of October 2024, the Anti-Corruption Bureau communicated to the General Administration Department for accord of approval for registration of formal case as well as investigation against seven officers of the Horticulture Department including Chaman Lal Sharma.
On this, the GAD communicated to Departmental Vigilance Officer (DVO), Directorate of Horticulture Kashmir to furnish the factual report on urgent basis despite the fact that Director was posted in Jammu. Thereafter, the GAD vide letter dated March 13, 2025 communicated to Principal Secretary, Agriculture Department for detailed report with specific comments.
However, the GAD vide letter dated December 10, 2024 had issued vigilance clearance in favour of Incharge Director Chaman Lal Sharma. “All this clearly establishes that placement of Chaman Lal Sharma as Incharge Director is not illegal because of vigilance clearance”, the spokesman said.
He, however, questioned as to why the name of only one officer-Chaman Lal Sharma is being raised despite the fact that Anti-Corruption Bureau had sent names of seven officers on the issue of plantation during the period between 2019 and 2021.
