BARAMULLA, Feb 17: The Baramulla Working Journalist Association (BWJA) today strongly condemned the assault on Senior Journalist and Chairman by Tehsildar Baramulla, during the Deputy Chief Minister’s visit to Dak Bungalow, Baramulla.
“This incident is a grave violation of press freedom and an attack on the Fundamental Rights of journalists to perform their duties without fear of violence or intimidation. Such actions undermine the very essence of democracy and the role of the press in a free society,” said the association in a press statement.
“We stand firmly with our senior journalist and Chairman and demand immediate action against the perpetrator. We call upon the authorities to conduct a thorough investigation and ensure that justice is served. Furthermore, we urge the Government to take necessary measures to protect journalists and uphold their rights,” they said.
In this regard, BWJA announced a complete boycott of all government functions and events until the Tehsildar issues a formal apology.
“We will not tolerate any assault on press freedom and we expect the administration to address this matter with the seriousness it deserves. The safety and security of journalists are paramount, and any attempt to stifle their voice is unacceptable,” they added.
