JAMMU, Jan 5: Jammu and Kashmir Batwal Welfare Association (BWA) held a meeting which was chaired by Raja Ram Kaith and attended by large number of community members.
The speakers said that the Batwal community has been totally neglected by the Government at all levels and this has been the reason of its backwardness and abject poverty.
They said that the community has not been given any representation in the important forums of the Government.
They alleged that there was no action on representations submitted to the Governor and the Chief Minister from which seems that the Batwal community has no effective say in the Government.
They further said that even the candidates belonging to Batwal community have been totally deprived of reservation benefits as a result of which, the well-educated boys and girls of the community are still hankering for jobs.
Government should take an immediate action to settle their grievances by dividing the 13 Scheduled Castes into sub groups with each block assigned their due share of reservation quota in services and selections to professional institutions, they demanded.
The other major demands highlighted by them included grant of a special economic-cum-employment package for the Batwal community and declaration of public holiday on the birthday of Guru Gyagi which is falling on February 14.
Among others present were former MLA Sat Pal Lakhotra, Om Parkash Tugga, Kamal Dass Kaith, Kamal Chand Motan, Puran Chand Kaith, Gunni Ram Kaith, Hans Raj Kaith, Jagdish Raj Sandhu, Shamsher Singh Sargotra, etc.
