‘Building Construction Workers Welfare Board without full time CEO’

JAMMU, Jan 30: Bhawan Nirman Mazdoor Sangh and Marbal Workers Union have claimed that for the last six months Building Construction Workers Welfare Board is functioning without a full time Chief Executive Officer (CEO).
In a joint press conference here today, Harbans Choudhary senior leader of BMS claimed that functioning of the Board has worsened in the last six months.
He informed that the schemes meant for building construction workers have come to a standstill due to negligence of the Board functionaries and its chairman, Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah has no time for looking after the affairs of the Board and unfortunately the death claim files from the last more than one year are pending regarding financial assistances to the widows of construction worker awaiting approval from the Chief Minister.
“Similarly meritorious students securing more than 90 per cent marks are awaiting special financial award and thousands of education assistance cases are also awaiting disbursement due to non-release of routine funds for education assistances cases,” Harbans Choudhary stated adding that illogical queries are being raised in marriage assistances cases.
He also demanded that the Board meeting must be held on quarterly basis instead of yearly and adequate staff be appointed for the recovery of cess and the Board should be made accountable for time bound disposal of cases pertaining to financial assistances particularly in death case.
Ashok Choudhary, general secretary BMS, Mukesh Kumar Yadav, general secretary Marbal Workers Union, Chuni Lal Subash Chander, Rama Kant, Surinder Chohan and Subash Chander were also present on the occasion.
