Srinagar, Apr 2: Amid COVID-19 outbreak, the district administration Budgam has asked people to cut down the female Russian poplar trees as spring sets in and these are major source of allergy in Kashmir.
Tehsildar Budgam has stated that people who have grown Russian poplar trees should cut down them at the earliest as the same has been ordered by the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir.
“Keeping in the view the facts and before the spreading of pollen takes place Naib Tehsildar Budgam, Naib Tehsildar Sholipora, Naib Tehsildar Soibugh and Naib Tehsildar Humhama are directed to get their field staff activated for complete cut down of female Russian poplar trees falling within their territorial jurisdiction,” reads the order.
The order further reads that Girdawar Circle Budgam, Soibugh and Ichgam will assist the Naib Tehsildars for pruning process.
“SHO Budgam is directed to provide the necessary police protection as and when required to the Revenue staff. All Naib Tehsildars will submit the compliance on weekly basis,” the order adds.
The order has referred to the directions issued by the High Court in this regard and said that the top court has already ordered for the removal of female Russian poplar trees. It has also said that Deputy Commissioner Budgam has from time to time issued directions for the removal of female Russian poplar trees.
The order states that the pollen seeds lead to respiratory problems for the people in general. It also says that the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir has already imposed ban on the plantation of female Russian poplar trees as their seeds cause allergy and aggravate respiratory disorders.
