JAMMU, Oct 9: Bahujan Samaj Party’s (BSP), J&K unit organized a program to commemorate the `Mahaparinirvan Diwas’ of its founder and visionary leader, Kanshi Ram, paying homage to his unparalleled contribution towards the upliftment and empowerment of India’s marginalized and oppressed communities.
The solemn event was presided over by Nittan Singh, Central Coordinator, BSP, who was also the chief guest on the occasion. In his impactful address, Nittan Singh remembered Kanshi Ram as a revolutionary thinker and social reformer who dedicated his entire life to building political consciousness among the downtrodden. He elaborated on Kanshi Ram’s remarkable journey through organizations like BAMCEF, DS4, and BSP, which together transformed India’s social landscape and ignited a nationwide movement for equality, dignity, and representation.
Darshan Rana, president J&K unit referred to the deep influence of Kanshi Ram’s ideology in the Union Territory. He highlighted that Jammu & Kashmir was the fourth state in India where BSP achieved recognition as a national party — a testament to Kanshi Ram’s visionary leadership and strategic foresight. Rana reaffirmed the party’s steadfast resolve to continue Kanshi Ram’s mission of empowering every marginalized community and ensuring their rightful participation in political and social spheres.
The program witnessed the enthusiastic participation of prominent BSP J&K leaders, including Charnjit Chargotra, Sunil Majotra, Raja Singh, Mangal Dass, Satpal Bavoria, Tilak Raj Bhagat, Dr. Shak Mohd, Bishan Dass Bhagat, Suresh Kumar, Raj Kumar and others.
The gathering concluded with the leaders and members taking a collective pledge to uphold and spread the ideals of Kanshi Ram to fight for social equality, political representation, and economic justice.
Meanwhile, respectful tributes were paid to Kanshi Ram on his 19th death anniversary in the premises of Shri Guru Ravi Dass Sabha at Bahu Fort in Jammu.
While speaking on the occasion Sham Lal Basson, general secretary of the Sabha said that Kanshi Ram died on 9th Oct 2006 due to severe heart attack. He remained bed ridden for more than 2 years. According to his wishes his funeral rites were performed according to Buddhist tradition. He further said that in his condolence message, then Prime Minister of India Manmohan Singh described him as “One of the greatest social reformers of our time”. He sacrificed his entire life for the upliftment of the poor down trodden communities of the country.
