JAMMU, Sept 2: The Jammu and Kashmir unit of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) has strongly urged the Central Government to announce a special relief package without delay for the people affected by the recent torrential rains and floods in Jammu division.
While visiting several flood-affected areas in the region, BSP J&K President Darshan Rana said that the situation on the ground is grim. He noted that rainwater has entered houses, causing extensive damage, while in rural areas, farmers have suffered heavy crop losses. Many bridges connecting villages have collapsed, and large stretches of roads have been badly damaged, leaving people cut off and struggling.
Rana stressed that the Central Government must immediately declare a comprehensive relief package so that urgent restoration and rehabilitation work can be started on war footing. “The destruction is widespread, and people are in dire need of assistance. Compensation and speedy relief measures are the need of the hour,” he said.
He further stated that the BSP has been actively monitoring the situation since the beginning and that party workers are on the ground, reaching out to affected families with help.
Welcoming the visit of Union Home Minister Amit Shah to Jammu and Kashmir, Rana expressed hope that the Central Government will soon announce substantial measures to provide relief to the flood-hit population of Jammu division.
