JAMMU, Mar 18: The state unit of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) today alleged that Government has betrayed the OBCs by granting them 8% reservation.
In a press conference, which was addressed by the BSP leaders, they questioned as to what is the basis of 8%, when the issue is already settled in 1992 by Supreme Court of India that states/UT shall grant the OBC reservation according to their population.
The population of OBC castes (including 14 more castes) in J&K becomes more than 40%, then why 8% instead of 40%. Govt has included 14 more castes/ classes some of which don’t qualify for the inclusion in OBC list.
The arbitrary figure of 8% is without any logic and it is purely politically motivated. BJP is playing with sentiments of innocent OBC people just to create a big vote bank. Members further said that OBCs were deprived of their constitutional rights first by Congress for fifty years and now by BJP on the same pattern. In the discussion on abrogation of Article 370, BJP leadership had promised that OBC shall get their due share after formation of UT.
It is unfortunate that they are betrayed. Now, OBC should understand that only and only BSP can stand by them. BSP has been fighting for the rights of OBC and other weaker sections since 1985. There is no alternate of BSP.
It is high time that OBC should understand the anti SC/ST/OBC mindset of BJP and join BSP in large number to achieve the due share.
BSP leaders further declared that if Govt does not grant 27% reservation to OBCs, as per Mandal Commission, BSP will escalate its mission for the same and appeal general public to beware of opportunistic approach of BJP led Govt and vote and support for BSP.
Among others who were present during the conference included, Darshan Rana, President BSP, Charanjeet Chargotra, Vice President, Gourav (State Coordinator), Adv Shashi Thapa (State Gen Secy), Jagdish Verma (Gen Secy), Mangal Dass ( Distt Pres. Udhampur), Sunil Majotra(Gen Secy), Kartar Gandhi (State Secretary), Kuldeep Chalotra (Prez Bhaichara Committee) and Om Kataria.
