BSF puts winter management strategy in place to check intrusion bids

JAMMU, Nov 8: The Border Security Force (BSF) has put its winter management strategy in place along 192 kilometers International Border (IB) to check infiltration attempts by the militants especially during foggy weather conditions when visibility is reduced to zero.
Official sources told the Excelsior that the BSF had deployed entire sophisticated gadgetry along the IB required to check movement of the militants during very low visibility nights in the winter, which would start in the next few days.
“Our winter management strategy is in place well ahead of the foggy nights. We have deployed our gadgetry and intensified post-to-post patrolling to ensure that the militants didn’t manage to take advantage of winters to infiltrate into the Indian side,’’ the sources said.
They added that the anti-fog lights, thermal imagers and infra red cameras have been installed all along the IB. In addition to this, distance of vehicle-to-vehicle and man-to-man patrolling has been reduced to keep effective vigil on any kind of movement from across the border.
“The thermal imagers and infra red cameras spot any kind of movement along the borders, which helps the security personnel to anticipate and track down the militants,’’ sources said, adding some of the previous gadgetry has been replaced with sophisticated instruments on the borders.
Security forces have also installed halogen and anti-fog lights all along the international boundary right from Lakhanpur to Akhnoor, which would lit up the border during the nights to help the BSF jawans observe any kind of unwanted movement on the border, sources said.
Though the BSF and Rangers had agreed to maintain ceasefire in the Sector Commander level meeting last months after five days long ceasefire violations during which heavy mortar shelling and firing took place on the borders, the BSF was not trusting the Pakistani Rangers as there were reports that they could help the militants infiltrate into the Indian territory from the International Border in Jammu sector.
“The militants always try to take advantage of foggy weather conditions to infiltrate into this side—with or without the support of Pakistani Rangers. The militants always await an opportunity to sneak-in but the foggy weather conditions generally suit them. However, with alert BSF jawans initiating several new steps, it would be virtually impossible for the militants to infiltrate,’’ sources said.
The security forces have reports that there was no let up in terror infrastructure in Pakistan including across the International Border and a number of militants of Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) outfit continued to wait on other side of the border waiting for an opportunity to enter into this side.
Even during last month’s ceasefire violations by the Pakistani Rangers, the militants had tried to intrude into this side of the border.
Sources said the BSF was maintaining very high alert all along the International Boundary to check infiltration attempts during the winter.
