JAMMU, Nov 21: With fencing and border pickets damaged by August flash floods almost reconstructed, the BSF is now focusing on ensuring that the terrorists don’t manage to take advantage of foggy weather conditions which will set-in in next few days along the International Border in the Jammu region.

As already reported by the Excelsior, the BSF has mostly completed reconstruction of fencing and border pickets which were extensively damaged due to heavy floods triggered by torrential Monsoon rains in the months of August along the International Border with Pakistan in Jammu, Samba and Kathua districts of the region.
Sources told the Excelsior that the BSF is fully geared up on the border to thwart intrusion bids by the terrorists under the cover of fog as entire International Border falls in plain areas of the Jammu region which is engulfed by the fog in winters especially in December-January, making visibility extremely low.
“The BSF has been using sophisticated electronic gadgets which can monitor any kind of movement from quite a large distance even in the dense fog,’’ the sources said. The BSF on the front is followed by border police pickets set up behind the International Border, Village Defence Guards (VDGs) and police to keep vigil on strange movement.
Police have regularly been strengthening the border pickets and VDGs besides alerting the civilians living close to the border areas to maintain vigil on movement especially during the night hours and inform police if they observe anything suspicious on the borders.
The International Border, as per the sources, is peaceful in the Jammu region for past some time though it has become active in neighbouring Punjab State but there have been Intelligence inputs that terror outfits like Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) and Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) have been trying to push their cadre from the border areas into Jammu and Kashmir.
