JAMMU, July 10: Brig (retired) Anil Gupta, spokesperson of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), today demanded stern action against certain elements which are inimical to the prevailing peace in Jammu and Kashmir.
In a statement, he raised a thought-provoking question: “Does the nation want a united India or a divided India?” He likened certain elements in Kashmir to “rotten apples” and “bad fish,” that, according to him, continue to pollute the atmosphere, despite the return of normalcy to a large extent.
He emphasized the need to eliminate these elements, deeply ingrained in the status quo, before considering holding elections. He warned that if allowed to survive, they could quickly undo the progress made by the new generation in moving forward from the past.
Brig Gupta appealed to the people to consider whether they would ever want Article 370, which granted special status to Jammu and Kashmir, to be restored.
He highlighted the ongoing Supreme Court hearing, questioning whether India should remain united under one Constitution or have multiple Constitutions.
He referred to history, noting that a divided India had always been an attractive target for invaders, while strong rulers who unified the nation made India a world leader.
Brig Gupta anticipated that the coming months would witness intriguing and insightful arguments in the Supreme Court, ultimately determining the future of India.
