JAMMU, Feb 18: Demanding establishment of a National Law University in Jammu, students of Jammu University and other institutions held a massive demonstration and took out a protest march, here today.
Raising slogans, students took out protest march against the Government and the Chief Minister. They blocked the Tawi bridge, disrupting traffic for about half-an-hour before the police cleared the area.

During the protest, brief scuffles were witnessed between the agitating students and policemen. The protesters later attempted to march towards the Civil Secretariat but were stopped at the gates, leading to brief scuffles once again between the students and the police.
The protesting students said that they have no objection over establishment of NLU in Kashmir and they were only demanding that the institution be set up in Jammu region also to ensure equitable access to quality legal education and opportunities for local students.
They emphasized that students are seeking academic justice through democratic means and urged the authorities to address their concerns without confrontation.
The protesters stated that this movement represents only the beginning of a larger democratic struggle for educational equality, expressing hope that their voices will be heard in the appropriate forums, including the Assembly.
