JAMMU, June 14: A delegation from the British Ravidasia Heritage Foundation (BRHF), led by its president Om Prakash Bagha, met Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting, Dr L Murugan, urging the Government of India to officially commemorate the 650th birth anniversary of Sant Shiromani Guru Ravidass at the national and international levels.
The delegation also included Rajesh Bagha, president of the Indian Chapter, and Balbir Ram Rattan, general secretary of the Indian Chapter. A detailed memorandum was submitted to the Minister outlining key suggestions and demands related to the celebrations. The BRHF, described as a global, non-political and social organization, works to promote the teachings and legacy of Guru Ravidass across the world.
The primary demand placed before the Minister was the formation of a National Committee under the Government of India to coordinate a year-long programme of official commemorative events. The Foundation assured full support for these initiatives and proposed that commemorations be held not only in India but also abroad. It further recommended that the Ministry of External Affairs issue directives to Indian embassies and consulates to organize events worldwide.
Among other demands, the BRHF proposed renaming the area associated with Guru Ravidass’s visit to Tughlaqabad as “Begumpura” and Jahapanah Park as “Guru Ravidass Vatika.” It also reiterated the demand to name the Adampur Airport in Punjab after Guru Ravidass.
Additionally, the Foundation urged the establishment of a “Guru Ravidass Central University” to further academic research and awareness of the saint’s teachings.
The delegation also invited Dr Murugan to attend the upcoming global conference being organized by BRHF in London later this year.
