JAMMU, Jan 14: Jammu Kashmir BJP president and MP, Rajya Sabha, Sat Sharma today received a formal representation from the British Ravidassia Heritage Foundation (BRHF), urging the Government of India that 650th birth anniversary of Guru Ravidass ji be officially commemorate in February 2027.
The letter, addressed to Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, outlines a comprehensive vision for national and global celebrations to honour this great Indian Guru.
It mentions that BRHF, a global, non-political social organisation headquartered in the United Kingdom, has been actively working in India and several other countries to promote the timeless values of equality, social justice, and spiritual upliftment as preached by Guru RavidassJi. BRHF has sought the Prime Minister’s intervention to ensure that the historic milestone is observed with due national significance.
The Foundation has proposed the formation of an official National Committee under the banner of “Guru Ravidass Aradh Janam Shatabdi Samaroh” to coordinate year-long celebrations across India. The letter also requests for hosting cultural and spiritual events to project Guru RavidassJi’s universal message globally.
Highlighting the historical visit of Guru RavidassJi to Tughlaqabad, BRHF has urged the Government to rename the area as “Begampura,” symbolising the Guru’s vision of an ideal, casteless society. It has also proposed renaming Jahanpanah Park in Tughlaqabad as “Guru RavidassVatika”. The letter further recalls the Prime Minister’s assurance during the 2024 election campaign to name Adampur Airport in Punjab after Guru RavidassJi and seeks early fulfilment of this promise.
Another key proposal includes the establishment of a “Guru Ravidass Central University” to serve as a national centre of excellence.
Sat Sharma received this letter from Balbir Ram Rattan, national general secretary of BRHF, Indian Branch, in presence of BJP general secretary (organisation) Ashok Koul, media convenor, Dr. Pardeep Mohtra, co- convenor, Sanjay Bakshi and SC Morcha president, Dharminder Kumar.
Sat Sharma appreciated BRHF’s initiative and stated that the vision of Guru RavidassJi aligns with the ideals of equality and unity championed by the present Government.
