MEXICO CITY, August 12 : Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and Chinese President Xi Jinping held a phone conversation during which they discussed the international agenda and efforts to achieve peace between Russia and Ukraine, the Brazilian leader’s office said.
“During the conversation, which lasted about an hour, the parties exchanged views on the current international situation and the latest initiatives to establish peace between Russia and Ukraine. The leaders emphasized the importance of the G20 and the BRICS grouping as pillars of the multilateral system,” the Brazilian government said in a statement.

During the conversation, Lula reportedly emphasized the important role of China for the success of the 30th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP30) and the fight against climate change.
Xi Jinping said that China would be represented at the upcoming COP30 forum in Belem by a high-level delegation and intended to work with Brazil to ensure the success of the event.
The leaders also discussed the development of the strategic partnership between the countries, noting the progress achieved in the framework of the alignment of national development programs. The parties agreed to expand cooperation in healthcare, oil and gas industry, digital economy and space, and to continue to seek new opportunities for business cooperation..
