Brahmos successfully test-fired from INS Kolkata

NEW DELHI: Supersonic cruise missile BrahMos was today successfully test-fired from Indian Navy’s latest destroyer INS Kolkata.
“The launch was flawless and the missile met all its designed parameters,” BrahMos aerospace said here in a statement. The Indian Navy commissioned INS Kolkata on August 16, last year and this was the first time that a supersonic missile was launched from its deck.
INS Kolkata is the first ship of this class, with two more ships in the pipeline. All the three ships are equipped with vertical launched BrahMos Supersonic Cruise Missile System as the prime strike weapon.
“The Universal Vertical Launcher (UVLM) being used for missile firing has a unique design, developed and patented by BrahMos Aerospace. The UVLM has the benefits of stealth and permits launching of the missile vertically in any direction,” the statement said.
BrahMos chief Sudhir Mishra congratulated the BrahMos Team and Indian Navy on the successful completion of mission. (AGENCIES)
