JAMMU, July 5: Up in arms against the J&K Service Selection Board for keeping Urdu language test compulsory for qualifying Naib Tehsildar posts in its recent advertisement, Dogra Brahmin Pratinidhi Sabha has voiced strong resentment over the alleged discriminatory move against well educated Jammu youth.
Interacting with media persons in the Sabha premises, here today, DBPS president Ved Parkash Sharma alleged that this notification is discriminatory and biased move which is aimed to deprive Jammu youth of their right for fair and equal access to public employment.
Pointing out that most of Jammu region youth do not have Urdu as subject in their academic curriculum, he appealed to Prime Minister, Home Minister, JKUT Lt Governor & Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to personally intervene for deletion of `mandatory Urdu knowledge’ from the advertisement notification.
Chairman DBPS and senior Advocate P C Sharma described the move as arbitrary, exclusionary, and in violation of the spirit of Jammu & Kashmir Reorganization Act 2019.
“While the J&K official language Act 2020 recognizes Hindi, English, Kashmiri, Dogri and Urdu as official languages, the selective imposition of only Urdu-especially where it holds no administrative relevance in the majority of Jammu districts-reflects blatant linguistic discrimination,” he said.
Former Dy Commissioner B S Jamwal, N C Sharma, M l Sharma, Satyañand Sharma, Advocate Chander Mohan Sharma and others were also present in the press conference.
