UDHAMPUR, June 16: On Sunday late evening, amidst heavy rains, a tragic incident took place in Kultyar Panchayat of Tehsil Panchari of District Udhampur. 8-year-old Avinash, son of Pritam Singh, was swept away by the strong current of water while crossing the drain.
Till late night, a search operation was carried out by the team of Police Station Panchari and local people, but due to bad weather, success could not be achieved. SDRF team was provided by the district administration late at night.
This morning, the body of the child was recovered from Kultyar nallah with the joint efforts of police, SDRF and local people. It is being said that the child was returning after watching the fair with his friends, when suddenly due to heavy rains, the flow of water in the drain increased, in which the child got stuck and was swept away by the flow of water. Since then, a search operation was immediately launched by the police where the body of child was recovered this morning. The child has been identified as Avinash son of Pritam Singh and shifted to District Hospital Udhampur for postmortem and Panchari police registered the case and started investigation.
