Bovine smuggling bids foiled, 2 arrested, 16 animals rescued

SAMBA, Aug 16: Samba police has foiled two bovine smuggling attempts in the jurisdiction of Police Stations (PS) Samba and Ghagwal, arrested two bovine smugglers and rescued 16 bovines from their clutches. The vehicles used in the illegal transportation of bovines were also seized.
Police said acting on reliable information, a team of PS Samba intercepted a Swift Dezire Car bearing Registration No. JK02AV-2142 at Sambyal Chowk, Samba and during checking, a bovine was found inside the vehicle which was stolen and tied in cruel manner. The bovine was being transported illegally.
It said the bovine smugglers identified as Anwar Ali, son of Anyat Ali of Dawara district Jammu and Irfan Ali, son of Mohd Hanief of Thathar district Jammu have been arrested and the vehicle has also been seized.
A case FIR No. 217/2025 U/S 303(2)/299/223/3(5) BNS, 11 PCA Act has been registered at Police Station Samba and investigation started, police said.
Police said in another incident, a team of Police Station (PS), Ghagwal while performing vehicle checking duty at Naka NHW Tapyal, intercepted a truck without Registration No. for its checking. During checking, 15 bovines were found inside the vehicle which were tied in a cruel manner and were being transported illegally without any valid permission. All the bovines have been rescued and the vehicle has also been seized, it added.
A case FIR No. 83/2025 U/S 223 BNS, 11 PCA Act has been registered at Police Station Ghagwal and investigation started.
The arrests were made under the overall supervision of SSP Samba Virinder Manhas.
