SAMBA, Jan 19: Samba Police successfully foiled an attempt to smuggle bovines and arrested a smuggler in the jurisdiction of Police Station Ghagwal.
The police team, led by SHO Police Station Ghagwal, was conducting vehicle checks at a naka point on NHW Tapyal when they signalled a truck (HP11-4861) coming from Kathua for inspection. The driver, however, attempted to evade the check by speeding up, endangering the lives of the officers and colliding with a road barrier.
Despite the dangerous attempt to flee, the alert officers managed to intercept the vehicle. Upon checking, they discovered 10 bovines inside the truck, bound in a cruel manner, being transported illegally without proper documentation.
The driver of the truck, identified as Mohd Riaz, son of Ali Mohd, a resident of Bambliya, Tehsil Sunderbani, District Rajouri, was arrested. A case (FIR Number 14/2025) under sections 223 BNS, 11 PCA, 3 PDPP Act, and 50/52/54 of the Transport of Animals Rules has been registered at Police Station Ghagwal, and an investigation is currently underway.
The truck used for the illegal transportation was also seized by the authorities.
