Bovine smuggling bid foiled in Khour

JAMMU, Feb 21: Jammu Rural Police foiled an attempt to smuggle bovines in the Khour area and rescued seven animals after intercepting an abandoned vehicle during a special naka.
According to police, a naka was laid by the Police Station Khour team at Naryana near Dhaleri Bridge. During checking, a vehicle bearing registration number JK21G-9814, which was on its way from Pallanwala towards Rajouri, was signalled to stop. However, the driver, on noticing the police presence, abandoned the vehicle and fled from the spot.
On inspection of the vehicle, police found seven bovines being transported illegally. All the animals were rescued safely and the vehicle used for the smuggling attempt was seized.
In this connection, an FIR Number 30/2025 has been registered at Police Station Khour under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 11 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.
Police have launched further investigation to identify and apprehend the accused involved in the smuggling attempt.
