REASI, May 3: Katra Police foiled an attempt of bovine smuggling and also solved a blind hit-and-run case within its jurisdiction.
During routine patrolling duty at Dhanouri, a police party of Police Station Katra intercepted a person moving on foot with two bovines from Katra towards Tikri Axis (Udhampur). Upon checking, the individual failed to produce valid permission from the District Magistrate.
Taking cognizance of the offense, Police arrested the accused and registered a case FIR under section 223 BNS & 11 PCA Act at Police Station Katra. The accused was identified as Mohd Altaf, son of Mohd Qasim, resident of Slora, Dhansal, Jammu.
Meanwhile, Police also solved a blind hit-and-run case that occurred on April 24, 2025 at Nangal, Katra. A motorcyclist Guru Parshad Balli, son of Som Raj Balli of Aghar Ballian, Tehsil Reasi, had sustained grievous injuries in the accident and later succumbed, while another person received minor injuries. An FIR No. 114/2025 U/S 281/125(a)/106 BNS was registered in this connection at Police Station Katra.
During the investigation, police identified the accused as Amit Singh son of Gopal Singh of Aghar Jitto, Tehsil Katra, who confessed to have hit motorcycle of the victims with his Tractor that caused the accident.
Police seized the Tractor, bearing registration number JK20A-3239 and arrested the accused. Both the operations were carried out by SHO Katra, Khyatimaan Khajuria, under the supervision of SDPO Katra, Bhishm Dubey.
