Bovine smuggling bid foiled

JAMMU, Mar 11: Akhnoor Police has foiled an attempt of bovine smuggling and rescued two animals during naka checking at Gulaba Chowk Dager.
According to police, a naka was laid by a team of Police Station Akhnoor when a load carrier bearing registration number JK02DK-5973, coming from Thandichoi towards Rajouri-Poonch, was intercepted for checking.
The vehicle was being driven by Harman Singh, son of Narinder Singh, a resident of Kaink Jagir Sohal, Akhnoor. During inspection, the police found two bovine animals loaded inside the vehicle. The driver failed to produce valid permission from the District Magistrate for transporting the animals.
The police rescued the bovines and seized the vehicle. In this connection, FIR Number 53/2026 under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 11 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act has been registered at Police Station Akhnoor.
Further investigation is underway.
