Bovine smuggling bid foiled

JAMMU, Aug 13: Jammu and Kashmir Police in Bathindi area have foiled an animal smuggling attempt by rescuing seven animals from the clutches of the smugglers. A vehicle used for transportation of the animals illegally has also been seized.
Acting on specific information about bovine smuggling, a team of Police Post Bathindi, led by incharge Police Post concerned, signalled a Mahindra load carrier (JK02DF-9608) to stop at Bathindi Morh, Galli number 4, a police official said.
He said the driver of the vehicle, instead, sped up by pressing the accelerator to park it along the side of the road at a distance, and to flee.
During search of the vehicle, he said, seven animals were found laden inside it in a cruel manner.
Accordingly, the animals were released and a case under the relevant sections of the law was registered against the absconding driver, he said.
A manhunt has also been launched to nab him, added the police official.
The drive was conducted under the supervision of SP City South Ajay Sharma.
