Bovine smuggler held, 14 animals rescued: Police

SAMBA, Feb 13: Police in Ghagwal area of Samba district claimed today they have arrested a bovine smuggler and rescued 14 animals he was transporting illegally. A vehicle used to ferry the animals has also been seized.
A police official said that a truck (NL01AF-4854) coming from Kathua side was stopped for checking at NHW Tapyal naka but the driver tried to flee by accelerating the speed of the vehicle.
The alert cops, however, successfully chased the vehicle and intercepted it at a distance, he said.
During search of the vehicle, he said, 14 animals laden inside the vehicle in a cruel manner without any valid permission were released by the police team and the accused driver identified as Mukesh Kumar of Bishnah, Jammu, was arrested.
The arrest was made by a police party under the supervision of SSP Samba Varinder Manhas.
Later, he was booked in case FIR number 25/2025 under section 223 BNS, 11 PCA, 3 PDPP Act, and 50/52/54 Transport of Animals Rules registered at Police Station Ghagwal and further investigation started, added the police official.
