SRINAGAR, Nov 19: The J&K Board of School Education (JKBOSE) today said it has tightened the noose around private schools found violating textbook guidelines.
Joint Secretary JKBOSE, Shahnaz Choudhary, told reporters that these schools were found prescribing books from private publishers instead of the Board’s approved titles.
She said the Board had received multiple complaints from parents, prompting inspections across districts.
These checks revealed widespread deviations in some institutions, she said.
According to Choudhary, four private schools were recently found distributing textbooks from private publishers, and JKBOSE is moving to de-affiliate them.
Eight other schools have already been penalised for similar violations, she said.
She said JKBOSE teams are monitoring compliance in all districts and reiterated that Board-prescribed books are more affordable, lighter, and aligned with academic standards.
Books from private publishers, she noted, are costlier and place an unnecessary financial burden on parents.
She said that schools have been directed to immediately stop using such books.
Choudhary added that some schools had approached the court to seek permission to continue with private publication books, but the court upheld JKBOSE’s authority to enforce its textbook policy.
She urged parents to remain vigilant and report any violations to the Board’s grievance cell, assuring swift action.
Officials said inspections will continue in the coming weeks, and more schools could face penalties or de-affiliation based on the findings.
JKBOSE has stressed that uniform implementation of its prescribed books is essential to maintain academic standards and ensure affordability for students across J&K.
