JAMMU, Sept 22: The Shrimati Shanti Gupta Centre for Women’s Studies, MIER College of Education, hosted the launch of the book “Women and Empowerment: Achieving Sustainable Development Goal 5”, published by Springer Nature under its Sustainable Development Goals Series.
The event was graced by Dr. Renu Gupta, Chairperson MIER; Prof. Rekha Koul from Curtin University, Australia; Prof. Sarika Manhas, University of Jammu; Prof. Adit Gupta, Director and Principal MIER; Rupa Gupta, Director SSGCWS; Prof. Nishta Rana, Dr. Monika Bajaj, Dr. Bharti Tandon, Arpana Koul and faculty members of MIER College.
Rupa Gupta welcomed the dignitaries and highlighted the importance of hosting such a significant academic event at MIER. The book was then formally released.
Prof. Rekha Koul stated that the book is a global call to action, stressing the need to bridge the gap between international perspectives and grassroots realities to achieve gender equality. Dr. Renu Gupta called women’s empowerment both a right and a necessity, citing education as a powerful tool for change.
Prof. Sarika Manhas reflected on the persistent structural and cultural challenges faced by women. Prof. Adit Gupta praised the publication for its timely relevance and comprehensive approach to women’s leadership and empowerment. Dr. Bharti Tandon delivered the Vote of Thanks, acknowledging the editors, contributors, and participants for their support.
