JAMMU, May 24: Member of Parliament and former Sadar-e-Riyasat, Dr Karan Singh has strongly condemned assault on BJP MP Tarun Vijay for attempting to provide Dalits with access to a temple in the latter’s home State.
In a statement, Dr Karan Singh said that discrimination on the basis of caste is totally repugnant not only to the Constitution of India but also to Vedanta, which tells that the divine resides in all beings.
“In my capacity as Chairman of the Temple of Understanding-an international inter-faith organization, and on my own behalf, I strongly condemn this shocking incident and hope that the miscreants will soon be brought to book,” the statement added.
Dr Karan Singh also recalled that his father Maharaja Hari Singh had, way back in 1929, declared all temples in Jammu and Kashmir open to Harijans/Dalits.
