JAMMU, Jan 9: The monthly meeting of police veterans of Jammu district was held today under the chairmanship of Karanjit Singh (president, Retirees Police League, district Jammu), with the release of the book ‘Breaking the Uniform’ authored by Mahadeep Singh Jamwal, SSP (Retired), marking the highlight of the event.
SP South Jammu, Dr Ajay Kumar Sharma, who attended the programme as the chief guest, highlighted the contribution of police veterans and lauded the author for documenting his professional experiences through the book.
During the meeting, wide-ranging issues related to the welfare of retired police personnel were discussed. These included early settlement of pending pensionary benefits of recently retired officers and the proposal for establishing a police veterans township at Phalain Mandal, where a large tract of land is available for indoor and outdoor activities.
Serious concern was expressed over the safety and security of retired police personnel, particularly those without PSOs who served during the peak militancy period. The participants suggested that meetings of police veterans be held regularly at Thana and district levels at least once every month.
Other key demands included better medical facilities, provision of free medicines in police and Government hospitals, and undertaking a special recruitment drive for children of retired police personnel.
A large number of senior police veterans, including Ch Chirag Din, Ranjit Singh (IPS), Mahadeep Singh Jamwal, Suresh Kumar Sharma, Sarwar Chohan, Mukesh Kumar, Rakesh Parihar, D D Sharma, Kamal Sharma, Shamsher Singh Parihar, P R Shan, Ch SP Singh, Mohinder Singh, Daljit Singh, J S Chib, Mohd Sadiq, Taj Mohd, Satpal, Parkash Chand Digra, Manohar Lal Ratta, Satpal, Kirpal Singh, N K Bali and Ashok Kumar attended the meeting.
